This clinical picture includes all painful and non-painful complaints that are due to structural, biochemical and psychological dysregulation of muscle, jaw and/or temporomandibular joint function. Common symptoms of this disorder diagnosed by the dentist include masseter muscle pain, temporomandibular joint pain, headaches, temporomandibular joint noises, tinnitus, but also pain in structures not primarily involved, such as the neck . As a cause of pain in the jaw and facial area is often recognized late or not at all, both by a lack of information existing in the general public as well as in professional circles. In its severe chronic form, craniomandibular dysfunction is a disease that requires interdisciplinary cooperation between the treating dentist and therapist.
